RSM Urology Section Winter Meeting
Livigno, Italy

21st – 28th January 2023

The President Elect, Nadine Coull and her Secretary Dan Wood, are delighted to announce their 2023 RSM Winter meeting which will be held in January 2023 in the exciting ski resort of Livigno; a 2026 Winter Olympics venue.

We are delighted to continue the tradition of this Winter meeting which has gained a reputation for being able to combine academic excellence with inclusivity and informality. The section embraces those starting within urology as well as those more established in the speciality. Full details of the academic programme will be available nearer to the date of the meeting.

The ski resort of Livigno is situated in one of the most isolated areas of Italy which led, historically, to tax free status to encourage settlement and maintain habitation. That is something that has been preserved despite its new found affluence as a resort and one which is reflected in prices throughout the town. It has an extensive modern ski area, yet still retains its traditional character of the original three villages.

Skiing takes place on either side of the valley and the two are linked with a constant ski bus shuttle. However, the hotel is ski in and ski out so getting started after the morning academic session is refreshingly easy. This layout means there are dedicated areas and lifts for beginners at the resort level, whilst for those more experienced skiers and boarders they can head to the heights and enjoy a huge range of skiing.

For non skiers and après ski Livigno has the advantage of traffic free streets in the centre of the resort where there is not only a great selection of shops to choose from, (which reflect its tax free status) but also a lively heart with plenty of restaurants, bars, après ski and night life.

The Hotel

Our venue this year is the fabulous Hotel Lac Salin, Spa & Mountain Resort considered to be the best in town!. Situated right at the side of the piste and just 50 metres from the nearest ski lift, with ski in ski out access, it was built in the 1960s by the Giacomelli family and their family still run the hotel.

Refurbished over the past two years, if you joined us in 2020 in Corvara you will feel familiar with some of the modern interior decor, as it was refurbished by the same architects and designers.

The Bedrooms and bathrooms are pristine and modern with the warmth of natural woods and slate to give an alpine feel. We have managed to get a selection of room categories for you to choose from and you will see the prices for upgrading to higher room categories on the booking form.

All rooms have double beds with two mattresses on a single base. However each room also has a sofa bed which, should you not wish to be right next to your roommate, makes sharing a room with a colleague more comfortable.

The Lac Salin is renowned for its magnificent spa, which is over 1,200 square metres, including a fabulous indoor pool and whirlpool, sauna, treatment rooms and steam room.

The restaurant offers us the intimacy of dining as a group whilst the bar area, leading out to the ski slopes, is a great place to have a pre-dinner drink or to sit and enjoy a glass of wine in the winter sunshine.

For those interested in wines there is delightful wine cellar overseen by the charming young sommelier which highlights the local Valtellina wines, produced with specific traditional methods, and now gaining international recognition. As ever our arrangements include wine with your evening meal.
